The 3-night/2-day Kunjamuk trip is a hybrid pedal and paddle bike-and-boat trip on the scenic Speculator Tree Farm Easement lands that border the Siamese Ponds Wilderness.

Night One is spent in the Village of Speculator on beautiful Lake Pleasant. Day One includes a 18-mile bike ride from Speculator to the night’s lodging at a glamping set-up at the end of a dirt road at the northern reaches of the Tree Farm Easement. Mountain bikes or fat-tire bikes/e-bikes are needed so that cycling trekkers can navigate the combination of new and old paved roads and gravel/dirt roads on this route. The terrain is not conducive to road bikes; nor, however, does it involve single-track riding. We encourage folks whose bike fitness is wanting to rent and check out the joys of riding an e-bike. Some of the terrain has gradual ascents coupled with some hilly stretches that will give cause for those who are not in the best of cycling shape or not on an e-bike to likely hop off their bike without shame and walk short stretches. The route goes down and back along old Route 30 to picturesque Austin Falls. Once at Kunjamuk Camp, trekkers have the option to do a 2-mile round trip hike up Upper Pine Mountain with a wonderful view to the south overlooking the Kunjamuk River basin.

On Day Two, trekkers bike 2.5 miles to the paddling put-in on the Kunjamuk River, where they transition to boats and paddle down the sinuous, gently flowing Kunjamuk to Duck Bay. Here, the Kunjamuk intersects with the North Branch of the Sacandaga River and at this juncture, trekkers paddle up the slow-moving Sacandaga into Lake Pleasant on their return to Speculator.

Our Vision - Trips for Everyone

Weekend trips. Week-long trips. Some all hiking. Some all paddling. Some in which you can do both-- paddle and hike, even paddle and bike. No matter how long your selected route or your mode of travel, there are no tents to carry, camp stoves to struggle with, or mosquitoes biting you in your sleep on an Adirondack Hamlets to Huts trek.

You will travel to and through charming and historic Adirondack communities as well as amazing wild landscapes that make the Adirondacks the special place that it is. Our routes celebrate both the settled and the sublime, the culture of the Adirondacks as much as its nature. Your lodging will run the gamut, from the simple, such as walled tents, yurts, cabins, and motels, to the grand, including bed-and-breakfasts, hotels, lodges, and inns.
